  • Beautiful. We loved all the things to see here. We brought 8 people in our van. Parking was easy. Amphitheater is amazing. The cistern was so impressive! To see so much history in such a small space is really great.
  • Gorgeous, exciting, incredibly preserved! This was one of the highlights of our trip and is well worth a visit. Splendid views and a fascinating site. No shade cover so prepare to be warm but don't miss the theatre!
  • Large, elevated site with excellent views of the surrounding area. Still only partly excavated, the many areas can be explored at will. The amphitheatre is worth the long walk down an olive tree lined pathway and gives an idea of the spread of culture, even in remote areas of the island. The information centre is located in a room of the monastery.
  • The Ancient Aptera ruins were perfect to spend an hour or 2 wandering around an ancient city. For 4€, you get to see vaulted cisterns , an old amphitheatre, baths and all sorts of remains of the time when the Minoans set the city up as well as subsequent settlements including by the Romans. The location is superb with views of Souda bay. The site has olive groves too. I was lucky enough to be able to staying in Aptera so also got to see a concert as part of Festival Kriti one night inside ancient city. All in all a good excursion - do stop by one of the taverns in Aptera for a post visit lunch
  • Relatively 'new' archaeological site where you can find the remains of Roman bath houses and very impressive cisterns. There is a (very) low entrance fee (€4 pp) and worth the visit for sure. From one point there are some great views over the bay of Souda.
