Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki

What a wonderful place to travel through time from creation, rise and fall of one of the biggest empires the world has ever known. Not only that the museum keeps on and shows evidently how the Byzantine empire affected the whole world and its importance to the world by the development of carpentry, craftsmanship, embroidery and so many arts and professions that we still use up to this day. I highly recommend you visit this place and encourage you to purchase the big ticket for €15 euro which is a combined ticket of four tickets into one. This big ticket allows entrance into four must visit major landmarks in Thessaloniki , Rotunda (The Pantheon of Greece and the Covenant of angels), Byzantine museum (a time travel experience), the Archaeological museum (an educational experience) and Inside the white Tower (the view is incredible from there). By the end you have used up all entrances of the big ticket you will accumulate lots of knowledge and experiences and you will pass by a wonderful day as time flies when you visit thoss wonderful places. PS: The museum also has very clean toilets and a wonderful cafeteria that also functions as a restaurant later on during the day.

Wonderfully laid out museum with Greek and English information throughout. It focuses on the Byzantine/ Christian era of the Macedonian area of Greece. It holds many stunning artifacts from Thessaloniki and surrounding areas. Tickets are €6 or you can get the combination ticket €15 which allows you entry into 4 attractions.

It deals with current area from the early Christian (partially antique Greece) era to more modern medieval Christian era. Very interesting and well ordered museum that should be on every visiting list of culture seeking tourist. Recommend. The building is air-conditioned and the collection is quite wast.

Amazing museum in the Thessaloniki center. The building’s architecture is stunning and the exhibits follow a logical flow for its historical context. It has a great restaurant and event space to add to the charm of this museum. Enjoy your time there.

This museum easy walk from White Tower and other museum on group ticket. Apparently building won some European design award but cannot for the life of me understand why. Religious theme to most exhibits, icons, tombs with decoration etc. I actually most enjoyed the temporary exhibit with some incredible jewelry and ornate guns.
