Become acquainted with Guyana’s varied nature at Guyana Botanical Gardens, a recreational park with an extensive collection of plant and animal life. Established in the late 19th century, the landscaping of the garden took 35 years to complete and was undertaken from start to finish by English gardener John Frederick Waby. A number of canals, kissing bridges, bandstands, and ponds dot the gardens, housing varied species of plants such as lilies, palms, lotus, and the national flower of Guyana, the Victoria Regia Lily. Animals at the park include jaguars, manatees, toucans, owls, tapirs, giant otters, and capuchin monkeys. Plan a Georgetown trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

Unbelievably old fashioned, large birds like harpy eagles and large cats confined without space. Outside a dirty pond full of manatees and. Litter. Don't go there.

The gardens occupy a large area that represent the flora in multiple areas of Guyana. It is ideal for walking and exploring. Diverse birds occupy the canopies and is a haven for bird watching. It was a joy to see a tree canopy full of white cranes. A must see if you like jungle flora.

This is a nice place to visit. Also, it is close to the Guyana zoo. We enjoyed walking through the park.
-
For a Zoo in a Caribbean country, they have a nice selection of animals, but aware it is rather small and did do not have large animals that most people would expect to see in other Zoo, like Rhinos, Lions, Giraffes, etc. The place is Caribbean picturesque fairly well kept and the animals look well fed. Next to the Zoo, there is a large canal maze for Manatees, but the water is so dirty that nobody can see a manatee. Also, the larger part of the site is for walking into paths to several mausoleums in commemoration of several former prime ministers and various other honorable members of society. Very family-oriented with several groups bringing small children. Fast food vendors are available in the park.

Botanical Gardens is a beautiful place for relaxation and bird watching. The garden is well-maintained and have a wide variety of flora and fauna. The gardens are also great for taking photos. I would highly recommend Botanical Gardens to anyone looking for a relaxing place to spend a day.

The Botanical Gardens feature lovely landscapes and breathtaking bird views. It is a reminder of our Colonial history and the burial site for former president of Guyana, Forbes Burnham. It is a popular place to visit for picnics and family time on the weekends. The Gardens are in need of a fresh makeover and the zoo is also the same.
