Admire St. George's Cathedral, the main cathedral in the capital city and one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world. The Anglican church, built 1892, is now the seat of the bishop of Guyana and a national landmark. Admire the imposing 43 m (143 ft) Gothic-style structure, designed by English architect Sir Arthur Blomfield. Built from native Greenheart wood, durable and insect-resistant, the historic white structure is an emblem of the city. Wander the decorated interior, filled with intricate stained glass, historic relics, and a large chandelier gifted by Queen Victoria. Take the guesswork out of planning a Georgetown vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

Beautiful old structure. You can feel the spirit of the church. It was closed for renovations we did not get to do a tour. Great spot for photos.

Can't believe this is a Christian church. A holy place of worship and for God. But yet the government allows those wicked and evil to call this place their headquarters and are using it as their business for selling themselves. Such a shame. The most impressive building in town is the white-painted, Gothic-style St George's Cathedral, It was world's tallest wooden building a few years ago but now the it's the 30th tallest wooden building in the world (2022). It was completed in 1892 and was built with a native hardwood called greenheart.

I have always been a fan of churches. I love the history and the architecture. St George's Cathedral is no exception. The architecture is stunning and the history is fascinating.

Very worthwhile visit. First time we could not enter but outside still amazing even though under a long-term restoration. The all wood construction is amazing.
