Explore the dark side of Hungarian and European history at House of Terror Museum, a specialty museum focusing on fascist and communist regimes. The permanent exhibits feature artifacts from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, the fascist Arrow Cross Party, and the communist AVH (Hungarian State Protection Authority). Walk into the depths of violent, dictatorial moments that took place the 20th century by stepping into the museum's basement, where AVH prisoners were once held and tortured. These cells serve as a memorial to victims of the country's bloody regimes. Since it opened in 2002, this museum has become a member of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience. • Was expecting much more Great layout & the audio tour is really good I think we were expecting more nazi occupation than the constant communism info (albeit very good) Lots of on hand staff, but...

  • The stuff that we learned there over our visit were out of this world. The museum itself was very well organised. It literally guided you through the recent Hungarian history.

  • Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic. Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse. Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed. I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.
  • Very easy to find, nice and quiet place. Tickets cost 3000 per person,if you are EU citizen younger than 26 you get some discounts. They will tell you to not take any pictures, and they try to monitor that very well, not all of them succeed 😊 Anyways good experience, well worth the money.
  • A decent place to go if you have an extra day at Budapest. Don't reserve your day specially for visiting this. It is about the history of world war but feels like it's just one side of story (which is totally understandable). The audio guide is recommended, and the entry fee is 10 Euro. It takes around 1.5 hour for the full tour. Taking pictures inside is not allowed.
  • Great experience in here! A little creepy but really well made, you can learn a lot more about the dark pages of Hungarian history and feel a real contact with those times... Really recommended! Not good for impressionable people though
  • Intense museum with a lot of important history. Exhibits are fairly well put together but I took a star off because the audio guide is a bit clunky, you can't change the speed of the audio to make it faster but there's not a lot of space to stand around to listen to it in some of the exhibit rooms and it'll change automatically when you switch rooms so there's a lot of standing around. There's also different ways of presenting the info on the audio guide screen itself, the audio, and the leaflets that were in many of the rooms, so it was a bit overwhelming. Could also use more signage for the outside of the exhibit rooms to direct you the right way. No photos allowed inside, audio guides are in a lot of languages.
