Create an itinerary including Széchenyi Thermal Bath
Take time to visit the beautifully constructed Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the largest medicinal bath in Europe. The thermal water flowing at this spa comes from two springs and contains natural healing elements that are said to help lessen inflammation, joint illnesses, and other medical problems. Stunning Neo-Baroque buildings built in 1913 surround the outdoor pools, which are filled with steaming hot water. Watch locals playing chess, step into the indoor pools, take a seat in the saunas and steam rooms, or schedule a massage for the full spa experience. Make Széchenyi Thermal Bath a centerpiece of your Budapest vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Budapest driving holiday site.

  • Totally not worth it. Everything is neglected, probably didn’t see any renovation from 60th last century. The pools not really hot, the hottest is only +37.

  • I guess it is a must thing to do when in Budapest, and the pools, water and setup is very impressive. However it is mostly always extremely busy, and very expensive - so bare that in mind! Worth...

  • Lovely place, pools indoors and outdoors are nice temperatures. Remember to bring flip flops with you for walking around in especially indoors. The cafe area is decent, had a lovely beef stew there. Would also recommend getting a cabin to get changed in though. Its great you can be there all day to 8pm too with the one entrance fee. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Absolutely amazing experience! The whole place is magical from the architecture of the buildings to the experience itself. The outdoor thermal baths felt amazing and soothing, even on a hot day. The prices are reasonable. There is a well stocked store with towels, slippers etc to purchase in case you forget something. I highly recommend getting a cabin so you can change without having to do it in a bathroom stall. The staff was very helpful and everyone spoke English. This is an absolute MUST while visiting Budapest!!!!
  • The exterior part is amazing - it's so pleasant to swim or sit in hot water in the fresh air, especially when it's sunny. If you intend to swim you have to take a swimming cap - they do not allow anyone without a cap into the swimming pool. The locker rooms feel a bit old, but I still liked the place. Despite the fact that someone took away my towel. Better take a towel with distinct colors!
  • Pretty cool! It’s a bunch of different large pools really. I thought the whirlpool was fun, albeit a little rowdy and crowded. And the outdoor heated pool was my favourite. The indoor pools are too echoey for my liking but they’re nice too. Doing the plunge pools 5 or 6 times between hot and cold was nice. I was under the impression that the saunas cost extra and were only on Sundays but I think there are just Sunday “sauna sessions” (whatever that means). I went on a Tuesday and the saunas were very much open! There was a light sauna and an aroma sauna inside with the indoor thermal pools and then two separate sauna houses outside. Make sure you do them safely though A little unhygienic as people aren’t rinsing off or showering with soap in between the different pools!! Very old and lots of maintenance work being done. But an enjoyable experience for your time Budapest, I look forward to returning and trying out the other thermal baths! It’s also nice to see and talk to people from all over the world! People say to pay extra for the cabin … BUT I say the locker room is just fine with showers and a toilets. Well worth the price. (: 👌🏽 3.5-4/5 just wish it was a bit cleaner
  • Very interesting public bath house. A must-go place when visit Budapest. Note that if you are interested in purchasing the private spa package, it's better to go early. The bath house provides safety boxes to store the luxurious items. Though when I went 3 hours before the closing time, the safety boxes room was not even open. The bath house provides lockers, which is operated electronically by your bracelet. As well as cabins (private changing room) that are also operated (open/lock) using your bracelet. There are not too many changing rooms (unless you pay extra to get a cabin instead of a locker). The shower areas are open. For those who are not comfortable changing in front of others, I recommend to get a cabin. The cabin is all yours during your stay. The bath house has a store that sells essential items that are required to use in the bath house, including swimming suits, towels, slippers, swimming caps. Note that the bath house requires to use slippers. Swimming cap is required in the pool. Also full body swimming suit is forbidden.
