Create an itinerary including Goðafoss Waterfall
Also known as "The Fall of the Gods," Goðafoss Waterfall represents a magnificent horseshoe-shaped waterfall and a favorite of many tourists. The waterfall represents the point in time where the Heathens of Iceland made the choice to convert to Christianity and allegedly threw all their idols over the falls. Spanning a width of 30 m (98 ft) and reaching 12 m (39 ft) high, this natural masterpiece is worth spending a few minutes on. Check out the gift shop where traditional Icelandic wool items are reasonably priced. • Legend has it that the Vikings converted to Christianity here when their chief threw the pagan idols into this waterfall. It is believable, as this horseshoe-shaped waterfall feels like a sacred...

  • Good viewpoints, although one side was closed down (assuming due to snow/slipperiness when we visited. Breathtaking! Would love to see it in spring/summer.

  • Definitely one of my favourite waterfalls. Many people don't know, there is a passage where you can walk all the way down to it to take beautiful pictures on the rock. All waterfalls of Iceland are beautiful however prefer This one over Dettafoss. 😀
  • Being here on 28 December, the view it’s breathtaking-literally 😅,dress well because it’s worth seeing ;the solitude and nice surroundings with the sound of the waterfall on the background will worth your visit.
  • Beautiful scenery around the Godafoss Falls, including the greenish river water. Reminds me of my first trip to Niagara Falls many years ago. Took cruise excursion from Akureyri - 3 hour round-trip, with additional stop in the botanical gardens.
  • Nice waterfall. VERY COLD! there is a coffee shop/cafeteria close by. We took a private tour from Ayukeri from a cruise (50€ per person).
  • Easy to get to, tons of parking, and easy paths to navigate. This is a tourist attraction vs a hike. I recommend going in the evening or closer to sunset to avoid the tour crowds if you're not on the tour bus. Amazing views and great experience!!
