  • This was a great hike out to Skalanes. Lots of sights along the way. Crossing the rivers and old building ruins made for lots to look at. We went out to the research area, and on out to the bird...

  • Fantastic place! We went on a tour from cruise ship but I think one can go independently. Fine ecological research going on here. Excellent guide on our tour. Do NOT NOT NOT try and get here in a little rental car. There are three rivers to ford and it won't be pretty. Amazing scenery, gajillions of shorebirds but puffins gone by mid August. (Oh well...) Nevertheless, totally worth the visit.
  • What a beautiful place to go walking. If the weather is good it’s a wonderful place to see the Artic Tern and incredible views of the fjord. If you are driving be aware there are streams to cross. However an alternative is to drive partway to the airport strip and hike in. We did that in a tiny car and was fine.
  • We visited at the end of April, the place was closed. The drive over there (and back) was very beautiful though, but at this time of the year, it requires a full size 4x4, the streaming water at the 3 river crossings reached the axles of the car.
  • We made an evening visit led by the Director of the facility. His presentation and the wildlife were wonderful!
  • Visit in a "Mad Max" style bus, fording three streams to a lovely spot at the mouth of the fjord.
