One of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, Skogafoss sits along the cliffs of the country's former southern coastline. The coast has receded about 5 km (3.1 mi) toward the sea, so these falls now mark the boundary between the lowlands and the highlands. On sunny days, you can often see a single or double rainbow above the falls due to the huge volume of mist. If you don't mind getting wet, you can walk pretty close to the waterfall and even follow a rocky path behind the wall of water. Climb up to the top for a different view of the falls and the surrounding landscape. Before you head to Skogar, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Skogar trip planner, to make sure you see all that Skogar has to offer, including Skogafoss.

One of the must waterfalls to see in Iceland. And especially if you are a Game of Throne fan. Waterfall is very beautiful. And the rainbow you can see in the waterfall in sunny weather is amazing...

One of the best waterfalls in southern Iceland. Definitely worth the drive here. Lots of parking and toilets available at 200ISK. Worth the walk up to the top for the views.

This was a phenomenal little hike. Gorgeous views. You don't have to pay for parking. There's no hike really to see the bottom, but there are a lot of stairs right on the first leg. It's not bad though. One of my favorite spots on the week long visit!!

This must be one of the most beautiful places I've seen. This big amazing waterfall is so beautiful. You can go real close and feel the power of the water. You can also go on the top, it's about 500 steps to the top. And the view is amazing! I would recommend you to bring a backpack with some water and maybe some food. And have a good amount of time to use there. Because from the top of the waterfall, it's a trail that leads you further inwards the mountain. And it's so many smaller yet beautiful waterfalls there.

The size of Skogafoss is impressive. It’s almost impossible to take a bad photo. It’s about 60 meters (200 feet) tall and 25 meters wide, making it one of the taller waterfalls in Iceland. This is a very powerful waterfall with a lot of mist, so during sunny days you can almost always see a big rainbow here. We saw a rainbow even in early November. There’s an old Icelandic legend that says one of the first Viking settlers hid a treasure chest of gold behind the waterfall. Be sure to climb the over 500 steps up to the viewing platform above the waterfall too! It was quite a climb up, but plenty of space along the way to rest and catch your breath. Gorgeous views above and walking path further down for picture opportunities. No fees, large parking area. Don't forget to catch a bite at nearby bistro. Yummy

Absolutely loved it!!! Definitely I would highly recommended waterproof trousers and coat as you will get soaked by water as you approach closer Waterfall. But it is an amazing experience. There is pathway to climb up above Waterfall where you can walk around and see river and other smaller waterfalls. Beautiful scenery and if you are lucky with sun behind your back you will see lovely rainbow 🌈

Another impressive waterfall along the Golden Circle. Plenty of parking and very busy as you'd expect. You can initial approach the waterfall along the ground, over the sand. Then you can climb up to the viewing platform above. It's many steps with some hand hold rails along the way. It will keep you fit! But the views are worth it at the top and going down is easier! Overall very impressive and again, where some waterproofs if you go and look at it on the ground.
