Create an itinerary including Dyrhólaey
The black lava arch from which this peninsula takes its name, Dyrhólaey rises out of the North Atlantic. You can walk high on top of the arch at 120 m (394 ft), but if you prefer to avoid heights, there is also a bridge. Admire the panoramic views from the top of Dyrhólaey. Look north to see the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, east to see the black lava Reynisdrangar sea stacks, and west to see the endless coastline. If the weather is warm enough, you may spot puffins in the area, but keep your distance, as they are usually nesting at this time and protective in nature. Dyrholaey has limited road access during some times of the year; during this time more walking is required to see the attraction. Our Vik vacation builder app makes visiting Dyrhólaey and other Vik attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Incredibly beautiful place with spectacular panoramic views!! The wind was very cold and strong so, we didn’t spend much time there but we’ll definitely come back in summer one day…😍
  • The view is wonderful and so peaceful. We were speechless by the landscapes, the sounds of the waves. You can do a small hike about 30/45mn by checking all the view points. One of the best white landscapes I saw in my life
  • Imposing cliffs rising out of the sea create an unforgettable vista. The surrounding area is covered in lush vegetation. It's also a great spot to glimpse puffins.
  • Spectacular viewing points from top of the cliff. Black beaches as far as the eye can see as well as natural arches in the cliffs. Quite a lot of poffins in the area as well in late April. The hill is accessible by car which makes it a nice stop for some beautiful views.
  • You'll be able to get some fantastic photos here. Stunning views and it seems there is a lot less traffic than down on the beach. If you are in this area be sure to stop here.
