Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful black-sand beaches in the world, Reynisfjara Beach frames the amazing landscape notable for the basalt sea stacks called Gardar. Legend has it that these rock formations are two petrified trolls, turned to stone after an unsuccessful attempt to pull a ship out of the sea. The sky over the sea can turn from dark and cloudy to sunny in a matter of minutes. Watch out for strong and unpredictable waves--the beach has seen some fatal accidents. We love the sea and the coast but weren’t prepared for this! Black volcanic sand and huge waves make it a unique experience. It was worth the 3 hour drive from Reykjavík as part of the South Island...

This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, God is good. Spend the day if you can, we went on a tour and we were only there 2 hours.

One of the most popular beaches and one we had wanted to visit during our short stay in Iceland. Parking was ok and found a space with no problems. The beach is impressive with its black sands and tall stone columns. It's well known for the sneaker waves and a board near the car park tells of the dangers and the last tourist who died a couple of months before. This, however, does not dissuade visitors from going right up to the sea and running back when such a wave comes. And then people climbing up the tall stacks and sitting on them! We enjoyed our visit very much but just couldn't fathom people's stupidity considering how dangerous the waves can be.

Never seen a more beautiful looking beach then black sand beach. Parking is free . Be careful of sneaky waves. Be ready to run they are very unpredictable. Column looks amazing and unreal.
-
Wonderful place with spectacular scenery and history of this small fishing village. The black sand beach with rock formations jutting from the ocean and the basalt columns are a site you won't experience anywhere else on this earth. The ocean is churning..beware of the "sneaker waves." The village and the mountains that surround it are well worth the visit.

There are so many incredible sights in Iceland and Reynisfjara Beach is a must see. The beautiful rolling green hills, black sand beaches, caves, steep rocks are just gorgeous. The colors seem surreal. And the Little White Church such a great welcoming to this special place place on earth 🌍 It was such a great 1000 mile road trip in 2 days with a good friend.
