Maharaja's Palace, a graceful royal mansion, welcomes visitors who wish to stay overnight, or simply enjoy its surroundings. After his expulsion from Shimla (the British India summer capital) in 1891, the Maharaja of Patiala discovered the thick deodar forest hill of Chail, and used it as the site for his private summer escape. Enjoy quite walks through orchards, forests, and lawns, then find the badminton field, billiard tables, or children’s park for some more active fun. You can rent a log hut or cottage to sleep in royal suites with antique furniture, fireplaces, and ornate carpets lining the walls. The onsite restaurant serves local, traditional food.     Since the palace is converted into Hotel it is average and access to the public is limited. The garden is well maintained but not worth the effort to travel .

    I have been visiting the palace since 80s and it is of course ravaged by time. It doesn't help that its govt property with typical apathy towards maintaince. All said and done ,one must visit it if...

    This is a good, clean and well maintained place. You can definitely do this if you are in Chail. I don't think you need to plan a special visit to the place only to see the palace. Chail itself is a.....  more
