Get a new perspective on the coastal area and the mouth of the river, as well as a greater understanding of local history at Chapora Fort. Built by the Portuguese in 1617 on the site of an older Muslim structure, the fort changed hands many times before its ultimate abandonment in 1892. Today, the crumbling ruins only possess outer walls, although the view from these alone merits the hike uphill. Standing on top of the ramparts, you'll gain sights of nearby beaches and the sparkling sea and river below. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Goa holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chapora Fort and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Not quite impressed with the fort as there is nothing much to see apart from sea view from hill top. Visiting this place in early morning would be highly recommend as there are no shelters around or inside the fort for a visit in noon. It's was hot and drains a lot of energy. One suggestion is that if you are welling to visit make sure you get down to the other side of the fort for a beach view which is worth your time.

Nice, pleasant and calm place to visit with your friends and family. The place is very big, you can go and sit anywhere and enjoy the beautiful views. The fort entry closes at 5.30pm in the evening, and it takes around 20-25 minutes walking through steps to reach the fort in the top. So plan your visit accordingly. Carry some snacks or you can also buy from the many shops available alongside the steps to fort. Must visit place if you are nearby.

Nice historic fort. You have climb by steps to reach and there is lot to look around inside. Govt (dept of archeology of India) has taken adequate measures for maintenance and security. Good place to spend time with family!

Nice place to visit, provides a top view of the ocean and the creek. Early morning and evening are best slots, though we had travelled in afternoon. Parking is chargeable. Small shops around the stairs sells lots of stuff, collectible as memento. I loved the one at the entrance, the guy selling spices and then the one at the bottom, selling leather bags.
