Chester Beatty houses a large collection of Islamic and Far Eastern artifacts, including manuscripts, prints, paintings, rare books, and decorative arts. Established in 1950 to store the vast collections of Alfred Chester Beatty, a well-known mining mogul, the library now attracts both serious scholars and amateur art lovers. The standout among the library's collection of over 20,000 objects is the "Gospel of Mani," the last remaining artifact of Manichaeism, an ancient belief system that originated in Persia. Start your self-guided tour by exploring the first-floor gallery about Beatty's life and career, and end your visit at the rooftop Japanese garden, which offers unrestricted views of the city's emblematic castle. Put Chester Beatty on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Dublin trip planner.

Firstly how can you complain when it's free.... Interesting manuscripts but for us after a few we started to zone out. Worth a visit but don't expect to spend hours here

Incredible array of extremely rare and special books covering many religions… beautifully displayed. You can easily spend hours and hours discovering and learning about many different cultures through a multitude of manuscripts. Well worth your time and effort…

Fabulous array of extremely rare and special books covering many religions over the centuries. The work is beautifully displayed and i really liked the atmosphere created in the religious text area, Listening to the chants and prayers in the back ground, with each changing to suit the religion you are reading about. Handy lockers on the ground floor for your bags, coats, hats and scarfs and a lovely little gift shop and cafe on site. Lifts available for those with mobility issues and id always start from the top and work your way down. You can easily spend hours and hours discovering and learning about many different cultures through a multitude of manuscripts. Well worth a few hours especially on a cold wet winters day.

Wonderfully collection of art objects! Must see if you are in Dublin! By far one of the most interesting museums I have ever visited! (And not too huge that you would need to spend hours in)

A visit to this remarkable collection is well worth it! Pass through a gorgeous garden on the way in to view the largest personal collection of artifacts. Very impressive and well presented. Be sure to make a voluntary donation as admission.

Loved this place, its free but you can make a 5 euro contribution. The galleries are amazing, there were some incredible exhibits. It's located at Dublin Castle so you can enjoy the castle grounds too
