Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Munster / County Limerick / Foynes / Foynes Flying Boat Museum
At Foynes Flying Boat Museum, the station where Irish coffee debuted, view a detailed history of transatlantic flight. As the last port of call on the eastern shore for seaplanes, Foynes was the biggest civilian airport on the continent during World War II. This aviation and maritime station was famous for the invention of Irish coffee, which was prepared in the 1930s and 1940s to comfort cold passengers. After closing in 1946, the village and port weren't an important aviation site again until 1988, when a portion of the old station was leased by this museum. Take a tour the interactive museum exhibits, and step on board the B314 replica to understand the site's historic contributions. Foynes Flying Boat Museum reviews
Loved it. Great family day out. We loved the viewing platform and enjoyed all the history of the place. A big new extension being built so will come back when that open.

Wonderful museum undergoing expansion. Is very good now will be better when complete. Part of a flying boat, many displays, information, viewpoints and coffee shop. We'll worth the admission fee.
The museum seemed to be very spaced out the last floor had hardly anything in it. The woman at the desk area seemed like she was having to do the job of two people as she had to escort people in then come back and serve at the ticket and gift shop area. There was a very good hologram room but I felt like it could have been displaying more than it was. It was very interesting walking around the flying boat model this was the highlight of the museum for me.
This was a brilliant couple of hours, adult tickets were only €8 and for that you can walk all the way around the flying boat, and visit three floors of decent exhibitions. The highlight is obviously the boat, you'll almost miss the stairs to the upstairs where you can sit in the cockpit. The Maureen O'Hara collection has some wonderful pieces, including an actual Oscar statue, and the Foynes harbour section has some great history about the history of trade and industry in the area. Make sure you go all the way to the the fourth floor as you can go outside and use the binoculars to look out across the Shannon estuary.
A fabulous and very well presented museum. Staff are very friendly and being attached to a coffee shop, we were able to spend a comfortable time there.
The museum didnt disappoint. Kids loved the simulators and the boat. There is also viewing area overlooking the harbour, the cafe and souvenir shop. We learned lots of new information ) I can recommend for visiting.
