Thoor Ballylee - Yeats Museum, Gort

Amazing! The women running the tourist center were very informative and friendly. They even forgave me for not being a fan of poetry! The grounds were beautiful, the tower was amazing and the replica furniture gives you a feel for how Yeates used each floor. The tea following the tour of the tower was a nice finish! Don't miss the water mill!

This is a Magical place. Well preserved and lovely local guides who share Thoor Ballylee history joyfully. You can explore the whole site freely. Be sure to go during visitor center open hours because you will want to explore the tower. It will give you a great feel of castle tower steps and arrow slits from the inside. Each room of the tower is preserved well with furniture of the era. Stroll out back over the river and explore the nature. I was snacking on some wild berries back by the old waterwheel house. There may be some local teens that bicycle down there and chill out. They seem to be good lads.

This is a fine restored castle by WBYeats who won a Nobel Prize for Literature while residing there between 1918 and 1927. It is well run by a long standing manager .It has a fine display of first edition books and and a visual history of the writers life and full information boards of key figures in his life.

Absolutely amazing spot, full of history and has a real feel. Restored in best possible way keeps the beautiful grounds available for generations to admire.
