The city's oldest building still in daily use, Saint Mary's Cathedral boasts beautiful architecture and a rich history. This ancient church was founded in 1163 and today is part of the protestant Church of Ireland. Admire the interior and discover its many historical treasures, including the five chandeliers that hang from the ceiling. The largest three were made in Dublin and presented to the cathedral in 1759. On the church grounds look for the United Nations Memorial Plaque, which lists the names of Irish men who died while serving in the United Nations. • Lovely cathedral, beautiful stained glass windows. Entrance fee rather high for tourists, €5 per person. But the money goes to the restauration of the cathedral. Information leaflets available in several languages, including French, German, Spanish and Dutch.
  • Nice visit. It was rainy the day we went but bright enough to appreciate the stained glass window. Lovely cathedral.
  • Another great heritage in the city of Limerick. A short walk from St. John's Castle and the Riverwalk. Find out if its open before you visit.
  • St. Mary's Cathedral in Limerick is one of several churches in the city and does charge an admission of 5€, but also has some of the more extensive explanations in the church of the specifics of the interior and the stained glass windows. On top of that, the church is an interesting architectural mix of gothic and romanesque styles.
  • Seeing so many abbeys in ruins in Ireland this with the original stonework still so obvious and amazing history with it makes this a must visit. Photos do not do this place justice. Check in here before you visit the castle you won't regret it.
