The Irish Workhouse Centre, Portumna

Highly recommend. Really interesting and informative tour currently held at 12, 2 and 4pm daily. Our tour guide was really interesting and clearly highly researched in the workhouse histories. Very insightful and respectful tour outlining and honouring a dark period of Irish history.

Absolutely worth a visit! Very reasonably priced and tour was just the right length. I could have listened to the guides all day long but an hour is about right so the kids don't become fed up. As for the tour guide & staff, all very friendly and full of local knowledge. I knew very little about the workhouses and have never seen one open to the public before. Hopefully in the future they will be able to restore more of the buildings and it will be even better. Well done folks, keep up the good work!

The guided tour is well worth it. The staff are extremely committed and knowledgeable. The tour is fascinating, thought provoking and poignant.

This was one of the best tours I've ever done in Ireland. Our first intro was booking the tour via Claire on the phone who was super helpful and welcoming. Dolores, our wonderfully engaging and sincere guide, took us sensitively through a very sad part of Ireland's past. She took the time to answer all our questions and was all-round brilliant. We'd encourage everyone to visit this unique historical spot, a place that's been preserved through the Trojan efforts of the local community with minimal State funding. Please support. You won't spend a more worthwhile couple of euros.
