Create an itinerary including Asinara
Try to spot the famous white donkeys at Asinara, a national park that comprises the island of Asinara and its coastal waters. Often called Devil's Island, this has served as a quarantine area, World War II prison camp, and one of the most important high-security prisons in Italy during the 1970s. Learn more about these periods at the Fornelli visitor center, and see the former prison. You can wander the island's rocky cliffs, wide bays, and beaches. Stroll through the small fishing village of Cala d'Oliva, and stop for lunch. Book your visit here through an agency, because only licensed boats may sail around the coast. Many of these also offer guided tours. A visit to Asinara represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Asinara attractions planner to plot your vacation.

  • Who wouldn't want to visit this wonderful national park with it's pristine empty beaches, wild horses and donkeys and best of all some of the best snorkelling in Europe.

  • A small diamond among the Italian islands ! Accessible by ferry boat from Porto Torres m, I really recommend to visit the island during daily time. Primitive , transparent water and gorgeous nature.
  • Accessible only by little ferry, the a island is a protected land and marine reserve. You can visit it with a tour guide or yourself but only following all the restrictive rules of the Island to preserve the flora and fauna.
  • Wonderful experience. A MUST do is renting an e-Bike to tour the entire island, and research what you want to do, unlike some uninformed reviewers here. The southern half has beautiful landscapes and rock formations, while the north has some wonderful beaches (Cala Sabina).
  • Beautiful landscapes that make you feel connected with wildlife and nature. Some sites, especially little beaches, are very pretty and the feeling of aloness is priceless. The island seems preserved from tourism. Donkeys are everywhere and you can approach them very closely. Two important advices: 1) take a lot of water with you because there is not a lot of fresh spots, 2) rent a bike because walking from a site to another can be harsh, it will allow you to freely enjoy sites and wildlife. The guided visit (by car) does not offer this priviledge (too quick).
  • No organisation at all. If you want to spend a good day you need to book cars of bikes two weeks ago otherwise you can’t do anything besides watching donkeys.
