A fortified castle built in the 19th century by the House of Savoy, Forte di Bard reopened in 2006 as the Museum of the Alps. Although the main structure dates from the 19th century, the complex is built atop the foundations of a fifth- and tenth-century castle complex. The fortress repelled Napoleon's army of 40,000 with a mere 400 soldiers manning the castle. Visit the museum to learn more about the castle's defenses and the Alps. Fun Visit. This was a very interesting place. Be sure to pack light as sometimes the lifts aren't all working and you have to carry your luggage through the village a long way to get there...

We love it. To go up, there are 2 ways: walk or with funicular. The parking lots: underneath the fort (until in front of the fort) or just about 100m more for people who want to walk. I don’t remember the price for parking. We spent more than 3 hours and we pay €4. The parking lot on the basement are small space but you could go up until 2nd level and park just in front of the entrance. 4 times go up and change the funicular. With €15/person you can go up with funicular (return ticket) and also visit 2 museums. We have change to visit: museum of Alpine (this museum is huge and many interesting info and history, I f you like history), prison and first museum on the first stop of funicular (forget the name) They have also many exhibitions and this is free. If you are not fans of museum or history, just pay €8/persons and you have chance with funicular and visit one museum. They have cafeteria and restaurant on the top. Good service. They speak Italian, French and English. Don’t forget to enjoy short video about the fort itself from the beginning until 20th century.

A perfect place to spend the day. Various museums, caffè, magnificent views, painting room to have rest! Short films and interactive video make the visit entertained and not boring.

Very nice old Fort, famous also for being the Fort of the bad guys in "Marvel: the age of Ultron"! You can find (recycled) plastic animals all over the place, not quite sure why, amazing history, beautiful museum, I recommend the first one (about fort and castle in general).

A nice and interesting place to visit. You can see different exhibitions and enjoy the view of the valley. I liked the most an art deco exhibition, a must-see point in there.

Fascinating visit to this amazing fort set in a beautiful village. Very friendly staff and the restaurant served delicious and very reasonable food. I highly recommend the blue cheese gnocchi
