Create an itinerary including Roccia dell'Elefante
Raising its trunk at the side of Highway 134, you'll find Roccia dell'Elefante, an elephant-shaped rock used in ancient times as a necropolis. Originally part of the Rocky Mount Caseddazzu, the rock broke off centuries ago and rolled downhill before coming to rest at its current location. The inside walls feature carved bovine horns, representing the bull god revered for his strength and associated with death and regeneration. You'll also find furnishings meant to remind the dead of their earthly homes. • Right by the road and worth quick stop to see this natural created Elephant rock. You might be harassed at the parking space by some souvenir sellers but polite thank you will suffice.

  • The Elephant rock. Yes there is a resemblence to a pachyderm. Which, when you think about it, is rather a remarkable achievement for a rock. It's on the roadside just outside of Castelsardo, free to view.
  • We spotted the formation during our drive. It was a nice surprise.
  • It's just a rock which looks like elephant :) But it's in pleasant location so if you are nearby it's worth to stop to take a picture :)
  • Definitely recommend it to visit when you're in Sardinia! Couple on minutes drive from Castelsardo. It's free as being on the side of the road. Parking is easy and free we got there around 11am in June '19, some tourist but not crowded. Could comfortably take photos. The view also beautiful as always on this island 🌞😁
  • Wonder of nature. Little stop during the trip exploring north of Sardinia. Great views of Castelsardo area.
