Museo Marca, Catanzaro

The MARCA (Museum of Arts of CAtanzaro) is a structure recently renovated and opened to the public. The restoration was of excellent workmanship, giving spaces of international scope. In addition to the exhibition halls there is a bar and a bookshop designed by Alessandro Mendini. A temporary exhibition is added to a permanent exhibition. At this moment, December 2021, the permanent is being rearranged and it is possible to visit Galliani's temporary, on the second floor.

My judgment is not aimed at the masterpieces that the museum holds, which are splendid. My judgment goes to a bad management of which we already had proof from the reception: the operator who gave us the tickets, in response to our questions, clearly admitted that she does not understand anything about art. So I wonder how it is possible that a person who "understands nothing about art" can work in an art museum, having difficulty even in answering simple questions about the itinerary of the visit, while clearly there are those who understand a lot and still struggle to find a job. Secondly, several lights that were supposed to illuminate the works were burned out, and one of the caretakers - smiling, as if laughing - said they had been waiting for maintenance for weeks. Furthermore, leaving out the fact that the functioning ones were not suitable for lighting works with oil colors. And again, several halls were closed. Whereby we managed to see two small halls. Sure, paying a reduced ticket, but overall the visit left us with a bitter taste and a displeasure aimed above all at our region, increasingly neglected and abandoned to itself.

Terrible!! At the entrance they made us pay without specifying that almost the entire museum was dismantled or inaccessible. It was only possible to visit one room with almost all the spotlights burnt out, therefore without even being able to actually appreciate the works. Poorly managed and left in the hands of kids

Currently only a few rooms on the ground floor can be visited. Interesting works and well set out but sometimes not visible due to several lighthouses not working.

Like all catanzaro, a place worth visiting, I went with an art teacher who explained to me and I was able to appreciate the works that the museum has.
