  • Beautiful bridge with a charming surrounding view where you can see the hills of Catanzaro. Tip: the view from Bellavista is amazing.

  • A+++++
  • This viaduct, as well as being evidence of Italian engineering genius, is the largest single-arch bridge in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. Designed by the brilliant engineer Riccardo Morandi at the end of the 1950s, it allows easy entry, coming from the airport, or from any other direction, to the city of Catanzaro, bypassing the Fiumarella stream in a single leap. It is imposing and majestic with its immense size. The arch is 231 meters long, more than TWO SOCCER FIELDS! It is 112m high. Seen from below, it makes an impression with its huge arch, which was built in continuous cast reinforced concrete (not like today, which is built entirely prefabricated). It was built in just 3 years (1959-1962). You see it from all sides It has become the symbol of the city of Catanzaro. Following the collapse of the Genoa bridge, it was closed and had major maintenance work. It is now passable again. I quote the words used by Prof. Morandi to describe his masterpiece: «a work of art of particular expressiveness, among the most modern possible, since it was designed with criteria of monumentality, without the aid of useless decorations.»
  • The Morandi bridge in Catanzaro (besides being one of the largest) with only a height of 113 m. is truly a masterpiece
  • Bridge built by Eng. Morandi the same builder who made the bridge where it unfortunately came down in Genoa. After that event, all of his bridges were placed under careful control, including this one in Catanzaro. In fact they are fixing it.
  • Do 4 because it is one of the symbols of the city of Catanzaro. Despite the name it is actually known as the Morandi bridge by the engineer who built it in the 60s. It is the same Morandi of the Genoa bridge ... the Morandi of Catanzaro rises majestically joining two banks of the city or better to say two promontories .. it connects the historic center with the suburbs of via De Filippis, S.Antonio, Mater Domini and Gagliano. The bridge is the first in Italy for height. Unfortunately it also holds a considerable number of victims ... not from accidents but from suicides ... in fact, several decide to fall down from a height of about 100m. The bridge is clearly visible from the square of San Giovanni (especially in the evening it is particular), but also from the road below the same bridge .. obviously you can not stop but passing by car it is clearly visible in all its grandeur .. lately is the subject of various fears, given the news events .. but it would seem that the maintenance work has begun. Hope for the best..
