Create an itinerary including Val Ferret
Val Ferret is the name shared by two valleys separated by the Col Ferret, a pass on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The valleys lie southeast of Mont Blanc Massif. The Swiss valley drains northeast towards Orsières and on into the Rhône basin; whereas the Italian valley drains southwest towards Courmayeur and on into the Po basin.

The two valleys are connected by a mountain footpath through Col Ferret which forms part of the 170 kilometres (110 mi) circular Tour du Mont Blanc route. Access to Col Ferret is forbidden for private motor vehicles, on both sides.

  • Most beautiful destination for a walk. Both in summer and in winter. Just beware that car access is limited during peak season.

  • Beautiful valley for drive or hike with refuge at the end, streams, meadows of wildflowers in summer and a waterfall.
  • Absolutely breathtaking.

  • In this unique valley at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif I have the best memories of a holiday in Courmayeur. You can drive up to Lavachey after which you start a not too demanding walk in the middle of unspoiled nature. I highly recommend a stop at the Chalet Val Ferret and then a last effort to get to the Elena Refuge and enjoy a unique view!
  • Easy walk along the Val Ferret. We reach the Planpincieux car park by car. From there, going towards Val Ferret, take the farm road on the left, which initially crosses meadows, then passes a campsite until you reach the Notre Dame chapel. From here we follow the pedestrian path that runs alongside the road, up to Pra Sec. Here we cross the stream and continue through meadows and woods up to Lavachey. We wanted to have lunch there, but the restaurants were still closed, so we go back to the parking lot and have lunch at the Lo Brenlo bar. Route length 4 km going and 4 km coming back, all flat.
