Create an itinerary including Castle of Duino
Standing tall on the cliffs over the Gulf of Trieste, you'll find Castle of Duino, a 14th-century fortification that's been owned by the Della Torre family for over 420 years. Since 2003, it's been open for tours. Visit over 18 of the castle's rooms, where you'll find the spiral Palladio staircase, the 1810 forte-piano played by Liszt, and staggering sea views from the towers. Outside, explore the multilevel park where you'll stroll under cascading Mediterranean flowers and take in a wealth of statuary. You'll also find a bunker built during World War II, as well as a bookstore and snack shop. Looking out over the rocks, you'll see the ruins of the old tenth-century castle originally built on this spot. Castle of Duino is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.

  • Really worth to visit! Easy access with the bus from Trieste. If the weather is good you can visit old castle for 2eur and main castle visit cost around 10eur. A lot of rooms with nice history behind.

  • The castles (both the ancient one and the "new" one) are in spectacular positions with great views and vistas, There is a bit of a hill to each but not bad. The whole area is lovely.

  • Wonderful place. We visited the castle in April at Easter, and luckily we had real spring weather. Beautiful flowers in the castle garden, lovely scent of the flowers, excellent view to the see. The castle itself is in very good shape, can be visited inside, and has a lot to show. Authentic rooms, a lot of interesting historical items. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Really recommend visiting the lesser popular of the castles near Trieste (the other being Miramere). This one is less crowded and offers even better views. 11 eur to get in for adults. The ticket can be combined also with the old castle which offers fabulous views, highly recommend visiting it (200 meters away). Afterwards visit the new castle and you can walk thru the rooms and gardens and many viewpoints. There is also a WW2 Era bunker on site to check out. Dogs welcome, even inside the castle. Highly recommend! Parking can be somewhat difficult, but there is free street parking, just be patient.
  • A medieval castle with a tower from the time of the Romans. Beautiful views of the surrounding cliffs. Possibility to descend into a World War II bunker. It still belongs to the noble family of Thurn - Taxis, self-guided tour.
  • Great and beautifull castle with lots of interesting exhibited items. In the castle garden there's an enterence to the WW1 and WW2 bunker. But bunker and the castle both are screaming for much needed restauration.
  • I was very surprised how beautiful this castle is! It is located not far from Trieste and I recommend to visit! Castle with splendid views at Adriatic sea and the coast leading to Tierste.
