Create an itinerary including Rilke Trail
Named after poet Rainer Maria Rilke, Rilke Trail stretches for about 1,700 m (5,500 ft) and gives access to a natural reserve. Almost flat for its entire length, the trail can be done easily by most visitors as a light walk. Along the way, you'll encounter white rocks and shrubs facing the sea, with spots from which you'll be able to see the entire gulf of Trieste. Although this is not a difficult walk for most, be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring some drinking water and sun protection. Put Rilke Trail at the forefront of your travel plans using our Duino vacation site.

  • This was a joy to explore and I wish I will be back no doubt, perfect to relax the senses whilst watching the seaside and the harbour, quiet and sunny, easy trail. I took some stunning photos with my mobile, but will be back with more equipment to document how beautiful it is. The info centre was closed howeved on a monday strangely shame as I wanted to ask questions
  • An enchanting way to walk from several vantage points to the sea. The remains of a bunker are on the road, there is a field for shoes on the rocky terrain. There are several ways to walk. Also, along the way you can drink and eat in the restaurant, which is on the way. It runs along the edge of high cliffs above the Sesljan Bay and is part of the Duino Cliffs Regional Nature Reserve. It runs from Sesljan to Devin (Duino). It is named after the German poet and writer Rainer Maria Rilke, who was a guest at Devin Castle in 1910 and 1911. It is only a good two kilometers long, varied and not too steep, and younger children can also cope with it. Along the way there are several viewpoints from which on a clear day you can see all the way to Trieste, Cape Savudrija, Miramar Castle, Isonzo Mouth Regional Natural Reserve and Grado. A whole range of karst phenomena can be seen, such as grooves, ravines and others.
  • Great easy hike. Very rocky. Some nice world war II fortifications that have been converted to viewpoints. The walk back on the road could be better. There's a few places without sidewalks.
  • Easy walking trail for spending few hours under the sun and enjoying blue water Adriatic Sea ! Adventurous trail along the way you can find many view point spots where you can sit and enjoy the view !
  • An easy 2km walk along beautiful landscape, view of the sea and plenty of pic moments. No access to a beach though, but a nice castle at the end and the public bus nr. 44 takes you back, if you don't want to walk 😉
