Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, Gressoney Saint Jean

Beautiful church built around 1515 located in the center of Gressoney, the frescoes and wooden artefacts placed inside are very interesting. In front there is a cloister from 1626 with frescoes of the Via Crucis.

The church was consecrated in 1515, but the construction dates back to 1380 and is located in the historic center of Gressoney and was subsequently enlarged over the centuries. In front of the church there is the churchyard where there is a portico inside which the aedicules of the Via Crucis wind, the construction dates back to 1626.

A beautiful neat and clean church. An exciting place of prayer

On the main square of the village stands this small church but of absolute beauty. The late Gothic portal is interesting, the bust of Queen Margherita has been inserted on the wall to the right. Consisting of three naves separated by granite columns. The high altar is in marble and comes from a church in Ivrea. One of the other side altars is made of wood with a fine inlay work. Inside there is the organ donated by Queen Margherita who was fond of the town of Gressoney. The bell tower is built entirely of stone.
