The third largest lake in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe, Lago di Como is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. The rich and powerful have been coming here since Roman times. Lake Como is well-known for its attractive villas. Visit the 17th-century Villa Carlotta to explore its scenic gardens, agriculture museum, and significant sculptures. Villa del Balbianello, the final home of explorer Guido Monzino, is famous for its elaborate, terraced gardens. Today, you'll find a museum devoted to his work. Go for a walk on one of the nature trails around the lake, or try out some watersports. Hop aboard the ferry service to easily access the small towns and villages. Make Lago di Como a centerpiece of your Varenna vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Varenna holiday site.

Pretty Destination, very busy. The Bus service in Como is horrific, especially in the evening. Buses just don't show up. Taxis are pricy. The Walks and views are amazing. Great places for Foodies...

A beautiful place - we took the train from Milan for 5 euros. But if you are planning a one day trip, there is not enough time to explore all the beaches by walking.

It's definitely a special place with huge potential beauty, but... It's very commercial in certain parts. It's one of those areas that is suffering under its own success.

We almost couldn’t see Lake Como at all because of the thick fog…! We could see nothing from the top after taking the funicular and the whole group was disappointed. Blessed to see it eventually from the boat ride only, so you may want to take note the season you come to visit :) I will share some pictures with fog and then when it cleared up so you know. God’s creation of the lake and alps is so beautiful. There is beauty in every season!

Lake como is very charming place. You will love it instant you see it. We took a day trip from Milan in winter in December. It was a guided tour. We started at 9 am. It will take an hour to reach lake como. After that we boarded boat for lake Como tour. The tour will last for an hour over lake Como. Then we went to the funicular to see lake Como view from top. You can spend your time there and return as per own convenience. We have finished both boat and funicular by 2 pm. Then you can stroll in market and finally boarded the bus back to city at 4:30 pm. There are really nice cafes, pizzeria and mcd restaurant. McD is usually crowded and has wash rooms too. Though we did a guided tour but after my experience, i would say you do not need that. You can do it by yourself but lake Como is definitely recommended if you are in Italy.

Visiting our most favorite lake this time for 2 months...trip of a lifetime. Though there is quite a bit to see & do, try not to rush into seeing everything. Part of Lake Como's appeal is its gorgeous laid back surroundings. There's something for everyone. If pressed for time, stay on the Tremezzo or Lenno side for easy ferry connections to visit the popular & pretty villages of Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio. For a quieter area, try Bellano with train access. But anywhere on the lake you choose to stay will not disappoint. Simply gorgeous views from all sides of the lake. We love Lake Como ❤
