Walls of Monteriggioni is a fine example of a medieval walled town. Explore the village's central Piazza Roma and side streets to find hidden gardens and courtyards. Marvel at the 570 m (1,870 ft) of thick stone walls surrounding the town and the 14 towers punctuating the skyline. These were designed to protect the city from Florence's armies. Climb the barricades--nearly untouched since their construction in the early 13th century--for views of farmland and the city. Ask at the tourism center about guided tours of the city and the walls. This was one of our stops on a wine tour and the view was incredible. The town has some great places to eat and shop. Everyone was welcoming.

Currently closed, but still can be viewed from below. The whole wall is preserved and viewable. Unique chance to study medieval defense
-
it is a lovely town going around but when you climb the wall, nothing to see… I would recommend you go some other towns if you are not local people who really travel so many places and have nowhere else to go…
