Create an itinerary including Museo Cappella Sansevero
A treasure chest of art and science, Museo Cappella Sansevero houses almost 30 significant works of art, among which are three notable late-Baroque statues. These intriguing sculptures were created with a marble-like substance known for its tissue-like quality, invented by Raimondo di Sangro, a prominent inventor and scientist. He spent the last years of his life reconstructing and decorating this chapel. Arguably the site's most notable piece, a sculpture of Christ covered with a thin shroud is a masterpiece created by Giuseppe Sanmartino, a distinguished sculptor of the Baroque period. The chapel also contains an exhibit of anatomical models of a mature man and a pregnant woman, their skeletons encased in hardened arteries and veins made of beeswax, iron wire, and silk. Tickets can be purchased on site, but if you want to avoid a long wait, book online well in advance. • We planned our trip to include this marvel. The sculpture itself is a masterwork, but the whole “chapel” is even more interesting because of its non-denominational nature.

  • One of the most spectacular locations in Naples housing an absolute masterpiece, The Veiled Christ. The craftsmanship is truly mindblowing. The lifeless body of Jesus with an almost liquid flowing veil contains so much intricate detail that you can't comprehend how this is sculpted from marble. The other sculptures are equally impressive with one marble sculpture depicting a net over a body which looks incredible. You'll also find the anatomical machines at this location which showcases the circulatory nervous system preserved on human remains, it's fascinating. Definitely go here! Appreciate the masterpieces.
  • This very small museum houses some incredible art and, of course, the sculpture of the veiled Christ, which is simply breathtaking. Definitely reccomend it. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures once inside. We waited over 1 hr to buy tickets for a time slot later in the day, so it is worth buying these before hand online.
  • Undoubtedly it is a must to see in Naples, the Veiled Christ and the Chapel are amazing, wonderful, stunning, and so on. But it is extremely expensive having in mind: - You need to take the tickets in advance if you want to see the Chapel. - if you buy the tickets online it is more expensive than buying them in the ticket office - you cannot take pictures nor record anything inside the Chapel. - as you have to book for a certain time, the capacity of people should be less so that you can enjoy your visit, but probably you will find a guided tour (coming from the cruises) with a lot of people around the sculpture. - the management of the place is awful, the staff barely speaks in English (or any other language)
  • 10 euros per person. Website showed that you have to book online, but I paid cash at the ticket office. It's one big room with several marble sculptures. You have to turn your phone off and not allowed to take pictures. It's truly stunning and worth the visit, even if you can see everything in about 20 minutes. Souvenir shop on the way out.
  • Very expensive for what you get to see. The sculptures are very interesting and detailed, but there is limited information about them. The entrance fee is a very steep €8, and you have to book online to guarantee entry which adds an extortionate 25% booking fee. You’re also not allowed to take pictures (the only place in Naples I’ve seen this) for some bizarre reason. Definitely not a must see; maybe drop in if you can get last minute tickets on the day.
