Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, a 16th-century church designed by Michelangelo, was built on the remains of the Baths of the Diocletian and is dedicated to the Christians who died constructing the baths. The church was previously the official state church of the kingdom of Italy. Today, national burials are held here. You can find the tombs of Gen. Armando Diaz and Adm. Paolo Thaon di Revel, both famous for their efforts in World War II. Pope Clement XI commissioned the 18th-century meridian line you can see on the marble floor. To learn how to read meridian lines, you can buy a book from the small store inside the church. In the courtyard, you can't miss the 5 m (16.4 ft) bronze statue of Galileo Galilei Divine Man, designed by Nobel laureate Tsung-Dao Lee in 1957). One of my favorite churches in Rome. Inauspicious from the outside but don't miss it. There is a great little courtyard just to the left of the main altar with some old relics and carvings. Well worth the time. Near Piazza Republica .

I came across this church on my way to the national museum so glad I did. One of Michelangelo’s last architectural works. Look for the meridian in the floor of the church which is illuminated by a hole high in the wall. Find all twelve zodiac signs - Scorpio is hiding!

It's very Beautiful as expected, being inside the Basilica was lovely and so solemn for me. Awesome travel to that beautiful period in time when the Basilica was so lovingly built and finished.

A must see basilica in Rome. Designed by Michaelangelo. Lots of great stained glass and statues to see here. The sundial was rather intriguing as well, definitely a nice touch. Massive organ as well, would love to hear it played. You are also able to walk around outside which has lots of cool architecture to see. Worth the visit.

A beautiful and peaceful church. Designed by Michaelangelo, it contains one of the first solar clocks, stained glass windows, sculptures, and artwork. It is built in the old Roman Bath house that forms part of the National Museum. It is very easy to get to as it is near the train station.
