One of five national churches of France located in Italy, Church of St. Louis of the French features three world-renowned paintings by the Baroque master Caravaggio representing the major events from the life of St. Matthew. Artist Domenichino, whose portrayal of the life of St. Cecilia is considered one of his masterpieces, created many of the frescoes. Several other notable artists worked on the decoration of the interior. The church was constructed between 1518 and 1589. It was eventually completed though the personal intervention of Catherine de Medici, an Italian noblewoman who was the wife and mother of several French kings. Compared to other churches in Rome that are very ornate and exuberant, this church is brighter and simpler. It is worth a detour near the Spanish steps.

A beautiful Baroque church filled with Caravaggio's works. Breathtaking and the way his paintings are mounted add even more to the drama of his paintings. A must see! It is a bit crowded, especially among his more famous works, but definitely worth braving the crowds.
-
The golden art which is called “ Barocco “ Is visible around the church. How delicate and carefully had been worked on the sculptures , For me, the curtain sculpture was surprising! There are Caravaggio’s paintings also there that each of them has secrets and meanings .

Three Caravaggio paintings in one church , where else do you have that ? These most amazing masterpieces can be seen every day, but beware of lunchtime when the church is closed. For 1 euro, the light goes on and illuminates the paintings, which are otherwise in the dark.
-
Beautiful church displaying Caravaggio's works. We went at night time and only got to see some of the paintings. Still worth a visit when you're in Rome.
-
It’s a elegant and beautiful church, a few minutes walk from Pantheon. It’s definitely worth to visit. And it’s free.
