The Cornaro chapel of Santa Maria della Vittoria houses Gian Lorenzo Bernini's masterpiece, "The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa." The sculpture depicts St. Teresa of Avila being pierced through the heart with a golden shaft. The artwork gained renown because of its break with classical style and its exposure of a more passionate form of religious ecstasy. About two blocks from the Piazza della Repubblica and the Teatro dell'Opera, this site pays homage to the Roman Catholic victory at the 17th-century battle of White Mountain. Inside, you can see Turkish standards that were captured in the 1683 siege of Vienna. • Worth going there simply to marvel at the exquisite Bernini statue of the Transverberation of Saint Teresa in religious ecstasy. Simply one of the most exquisite Bernini statues ever. The church is also next to the Moses Fountain. Not to be missed. Watch out for opening hours of the church before heading there. Most churches in Rome close between noon and 3 PM
  • One of the most beautiful baroque churches in Rome. Famous Bernini did his best, and the harmonious style of the interior is stunning. Exceptional is also the statue of Saint Teresa , for which he created a hidden window , ensuring direct sunlight falls onto the statue , creating an amazing effect !
  • What I felt was a real hidden gem of my vacation to Rome, we found this just walking through the streets. A true piece of art, this church really exemplifies the money and power the Church has on society. Do not miss this masterpiece!
  • Beautiful building!! Loved the Gian Lorenzo Bernini sculpture! (Ecstasy of Saint Theresa)
  • Visit only if the sun is hitting the south wall window of the church, or you won't be able to see the lighting effect on Bernini's Ecstasy of St Teresa
