Riserva Naturale Monte Soratte tickles the imagination of travelers with its mysterious crevasses, once considered to be the gates of the Underworld. Rising from the green hills of Tuscia Romana, the mountain is part of a national park and offers good hiking and sightseeing opportunities. Look for World War II bunkers and two Renaissance churches, the older of which sits just below the peak. • Wear sensible shoes and walk around the former WW2 defences, hidden in the caves in the mountain-not sure if you can go inside yet.

  • Sublime, with breathtaking views. Mount Soratte, which millions of years ago was an island, has always been considered sacred. It's a path that more or less everyone can take, but only for some stretches. To reach the hermitage of San Silvestro, or the top of Mount Soratte, at an altitude of 691m, there are two paths: a climbing one (which leads to the hermitages of Santa Lucia and Sant'Antonio) by taking the path of the hermitages 205, an indication that located in front of the Annunziata chapel in Alberoni (you can find this on your right, the signs on your left, from there the climbing route begins); the other simple, with an "asphalted" road, but obviously uphill, which leads you to the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and which you take by continuing straight on the road in front of you and then passing the Annunziata chapel in Alberoni. From the sanctuary, for those who choose the easy route, the next route to get to the top of the mountain becomes more challenging, you walk on steeply uphill stones. Once at the top, enjoy the view, but after that I DO NOT RECOMMEND continuing on section 206 (and completing the circular tour), for those who have children, are not trained, have poor balance, are not equipped with suitable shoes or do not feel up to any reason. Because there is hardly a path left to follow, apart from the red and white marks or red dots left on trees and stones, and you go down steeply, into the void, over stones and impervious and slippery ground. On the other hand, those who feel like it, continuing forward, leaving the hermitage of San Silvestro on your left, will find the aforementioned signs to follow, which will take you into the woods, up to the stone of San Nonnoso, which can be recognized by its particular shape. To see, if you want, there is also the thieves' house, it is nothing more than a stone building covered with vegetation from which, however, you can enjoy a beautiful view. Otherwise, follow section 202b and cross the wood until you cross a wide and comfortable cart track (turn right, NW left towards Santa Romana), which takes you back to the start of the tour.
