The unquestioned heart of the city since the middle of the 12th century, Piazza del Campo was built on the site of a former Roman marketplace. This historic public space is one of Europe's greatest medieval squares, renowned for its beauty and architectural integrity. A twice-yearly horse race, the Palio, has been held around the piazza's edges for several centuries. The square is surrounded by several palaces, the most notable of which was erected in the 13th century as the centerpiece of this shell-shaped space. The piazza's striking pavement, made of red bricks arranged in a fishbone pattern, attracts passing tourists and local students. Most visitors pack around the white marble fountain designed and built by Jacopo della Quercia, a notable sculptor of the Renaissance period. A very nice place where the history of the town can be felt and numerous restaurants around half of the square

Piazza del Campo has a special charm. People sit in cafeterias and enjoy the beautiful view. The piazza is surrounded by many bars and restaurants. People also sit on the floor, which is something wonderful to me. If you want the best view of Siena and to take wonderful pictures, go to the tower. It is mandatory to buy tickets in advance so that they can give you time to enter the tower. Its only ten euros and free for kids up to 12 years of age.

Amazing plaza, it must be incredible during the Palio! On any other day, the plaza is a visual spectacle. The buildings are all unique and the tower is incredible! There are restaurants and shops throughout. The shell shape and angle of the ground is cool! It's a great place to hangout!

Most fabulous Piazza in Siena- some general maintenance and repairs at the clock tower while we visited but it didn’t impact the visit overall. Spacious, yet intimate- a perfect highlight of our Siena visit! Highly recommended!

Well if you visit Siena you can't miss Piazza del Campo. Best Piazza in the city. Lots of people and families come and go all day. There are a lot of restaurants around the Piazza to take your drink or eat your food. if you don't want something like that, you can just sit down and enjoy the view. Better after the sun goes down though because it's pretty hot in the summer!

Nice place to visit. When we visited this place it was rainy day but it's ok. The place still beautiful. I think if the sun is shining it make more beautiful that it was
