Create an itinerary including Grotte di Toirano
Considered “show caves” for the beauty and accessibility, Grotte di Toirano displays a remarkable karst cave system. Spelunkers found the system in 1950, but they were beaten in time by prehistoric man who found it some 14000 years earlier, and by the cave bear, which left bones, paw prints, and scratches on the walls. The required tour guides speak multiple foreign languages. Wear sensible shoes for potentially slippery walking surfaces, as well as clothes appropriate for 16 C (60 F). • An absolute must to see caves (grote) with interesting story and role in history of WWII. Easy to drive there and wonderful sights, both from the ground and from the top. Recommend!

  • Beautiful and write large cave system with extraordinary stalagtites! The tour took more than dan hour and every corner was surprising and breathtaking! Please make sure you call in advance to make a reservation. It's well worth of driving more than an hour to get here and see these ancient sculptures!
  • I love caves and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, calcite and arganite “flowers”, a little lake with transparent and blind crustaceans, bear bones and human / bear prints. The guided tour takes around an hour and you have to climb some steps, so not suitable for those with reduced mobility. Inside it’s just cool, rather than cold, so no need for thick jumpers. But you have to wear “proper” shoes; flip flops are not allowed. You can take photos without flash. You need to book your tickets in advance, either personally or by phone. You pay when you collect them - we paid 80 euro for 4 adults and 3 children. The entrance to the cave is 300m up so arrive 10 min early to collect your tickets and go up. There is sufficient, free parking on site and a little gift shop. There is also a café, which was unfortunately closed. At the time of writing this (Aug 2021), Green Passes for adults and masks inside the cave were required.
  • Amazing cave, really interesting guided tour with a very informed guide. The cave has some spaces with unique styles. We enjoyed the 1 hour tour which gives enough time to stop and admire the super cool salactites and stalagmites
  • I randomly find this Toirano cava for the travelling. Th trip takes a little bit less than one hour and there is a tour guide leading for that, one group of people. For adult will be 13 euros each and children for 7 euros. Some part of the place are very beautiful, even transparent throughout the light. The temperature is around 15 degrees therefore one jacket inside is much better.
  • What best way to spend one rainy day in ponente riviera? Underground unveiled, with very competent guide showing every detail, and explaining the matter behind chemical- physical phenomena creating the caves. Toirano historical centre deserves some time as well, just to discover beautiful, untouched corners.
