Create an itinerary including Grand Canal
A navigable canal at the very heart of the city, Grand Canal was built in the 1750s. Part of a new urban plan developed in the 18th century, the canal allowed merchant ships to sail into the town center and unload their goods. Today, you can cross it by two bridges and one pedestrian walkway. A number of important buildings overlook the canal, including a Neoclassical church from the 19th century, and a palace from the same period that now houses a theater museum. Walk to the end of the canal to reach a city square with a large fountain at its center. • Had a coffee at Illy near Grande canal and later went to visit Castello Miramare (15 min drive from Trieste). Great architecture and coffee. Definitely would recommend.

  • A must see. Mostly cafe's and the reflections of the architecture and small boats on the water is impressive. You will also find the Serbian Church here which is adorned with mosaics.

  • Great location for a lunch or brunch enjoying the wonderful view and atmosphere of Trieste. The famous pier opening to the Adriatic sea is just a few mins walk away. Make sure to take a pic with the statue of poet James Joyce!
  • Realized between 1754 and 1766 by Matteo Pirona, the Canal Grande was a key element of the new urban plan that led to the construction of Borgo Teresiano. It is surrounded by several restaurants and bar on which you can have dinner or simply relax with a coffe or drink.
  • It was honestly gorgeous, probably the only worthy part visiting on this city was this place .
  • Spring night in trieste🥂lots of good bars in the area great for relaxing😉
  • Iconic beautiful canal in Trieste, Italia. The only canal of the city, relatively deep. It’s well designed and the buildings along the canal make it just a really beautiful spot of the city, i definitely recommend coming here, it’s like a big aorta of the city, cafés, bars, souvenir shops, gelaterie and lots of tourists you can find here the city of sun.
