  • We toured the area alone, reading the pamphlets, and enjoying the solitude of a two thousand year old archaeological site. Well worth the few euros to visit!

  • Quite a short visit but definitely worth taking in as part of the Volterra Pass. It is a very impressive sight to see and you can really imagine Roman life from the well preserved ruins.

  • The Roman Theater of Volterra is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Italy. The Theater ceased its activity at the end of the 3rd century, probably because of an earthquake that made to collapse part of the structure. Its abandonment, however, allowed the construction of a large spa of which only the lower part of the walls and some mosaics have been preserved. Brought to light by excavations conducted in the 50s by Enrico Fiumi, who used as workers a team of patients hospitalized at the Psychiatric Hospital of Volterra.
  • An absolute gem! Voltara is Rich with history, beautiful views, and of course delicious food. This was a perfect day trip with my family. Plenty of scenery for taking pictures or letting time slow down. Step into history at every shop if you want to get any gifts, leather, cheese, meat, and of course wine that can be shipped anywhere. It is a beautiful drive and high probability for a romantic day.
  • Defo worth going.you don't have to pay 5 euro to go into the theatre as you can get the same views from the street.just walk through the big door of the town take a right turn and 1 min walk and you get a nice view of it all
  • Beautifully preserved Roman Amphitheatre in the beautiful town of Volterra. You can view it from above for free or pay €5 to walk down nearer to the site. We paid to walk down and enjoyed seeing it up close. It also had some plaques with information on them.
  • I love standing at the wall looking down at these ruins, something about it is very eye catching
