Kumaya Cavern, Iheya-son

Walk up the steps to the cave. From here there is a narrow opening to squeeze through and you can go inside. There are some shrine/prayer place inside.

A cave where the legend of Amano-Iwato, the southernmost point in Japan, remains. As you follow the road along the coast, you will see a huge rock that reveals a foldable stratum in front of you. There is a cave in this. If you climb the stairs for several tens of meters, you will see a rock break, which is the entrance. This entrance is very narrow, and it may be a little impossible for people who are big or hungry. It fits into the cracks in the rock and slips through, but it definitely sticks in one place on a sharp rock. People who are fashionable and sightseeing should stop. Be careful as the rocks are covered with sand blown up from the beach, so leather shoes and high heels may slip and injure you. The inside is dim, and in the sunny morning, the light comes in and you can see it all the way. The feet are sandy, so it's cool and comfortable even on hot days over 30 degrees Celsius. There is an altar in the back and it has a slightly scary atmosphere. The back of the altar is pitch black and cannot be seen, but it continues deeper, and there are also altars. Something seems to come out from the back, and I feel lonely. It's probably a sacred place because the orbs are crowded when you take a picture. It is a mysterious cave where you can feel as if you were born on the ground right now when you go out through the breaks in the rocks and look at the beautiful blue sea in front of you.

If you come to Iheya Island, this is a sightseeing spot that you cannot miss. However, we recommend going in the morning when the weather is nice. This is because natural light penetrates to some extent inside the cave. Also, the scaffolding may require you to climb over rocks at the entrance, so it's a good idea to wear shoes.
