Explore Japanese art and culture at Kyoto International Manga Museum, an institution dedicated to Japanese comic books. Find out about the subject matter and drawing styles of some of the most famous and influential manga, and learn how the focus and aesthetics have developed since the making of the museum's earliest pieces, which date back to the 19th century. Set in an old elementary school (incidentally, a common setting in many manga), the museum has temporary exhibits and a permanent collection of over 300,000 manga. Take an introductory drawing lesson, and have your portrait drawn by one of the resident artists. To plan Kyoto vacation without wasting time, ask Klarna Trips to design an itinerary.

Immense variety of Manga books! You can read them all but it was too busy so no more place to sit down. There is also a cool shop that you can enter without paying for the museum itself!

I love Manga. I did enjoy the museum. However I found it to be more of a library and not a museum. People go there to read just like a library. There's no talking. Everyone is quite and reading. They did let us in free because I have disabilities and a care giver with me.

A cheap price to enter, about 900 yen. There’s a souvenir and manga/anime merchandise store at the entrance to the museum so you can buy some stuff that are only there. The museum itself has 2 floors with libraries filled with manga from across history and an art area where you can draw something and leave it there on the wall for all to see.

An interesting place, it’s like a library of Manga and Anime, it has everything, lots of informative history pieces as you walk around. The building itself is interesting being an old school and it has its own history that can be appreciated. How early and you’ll have a pleasant time without crowds and no wait time. Additionally once you finish here you only have a 10 minute walk up to the Palace so why not make a day of it! Recommended for families, kids who are into Anime and Manga will get a kick out of this place.

Huge collection of manga with details of manga history. 3 floors. There's section for souvenirs/shop. Lockers are available to store personal items.
