  • A very famous temple at Mount Hiezan. The main temple is unfortunately under extensive renovation and refurnishing works. So technically you can't actually "see it", even though the prayer hall is still accessible. The surrounding areas of the main hall is "peppered" with smaller temple halls, pagodas and living quarters. Whilst the journey to the temple can be pretty enjoyable - cable car, fantastic view from the observation building, a walk through the forest - the temple itself is pretty "bland". It doesn't exude that spiritual and enlightening atmosphere of the bigger temples in Kyoto. Nonetheless I would still recommend a visit to the temple just for the experience of the journey if not the temple itself.
  • Go up with The longest cable car hiezan sakamoto , visit Enryakuji temple compounds on the top and enjoy the view of lake Biwa from the top it's refreshing
  • Beautiful temple on the mountain. It is possible to get on top from the Kyoto side, walk on the top and then descend to Biwako side of the mountain range, making it a beautiful day trip.
  • Very peaceful and quiet. Ideal for those who want to have a view on f Lake Biwa, tha largest lake in Japan.
  • Cold breeze so nice
