Create an itinerary including Karen Blixen Museum
Famed as the real-life setting of the classic memoir "Out of Africa," Karen Blixen Museum stands frozen in time, a monument to the life and times of the late author. Danish author Karen Blixen lived here from 1913 to 1931, running the property as a vast coffee plantation, from which she took inspiration for her writing upon returning to Denmark. Delve into Blixen's life and times with a guided tour of the house, where many of the rooms feature original decor and props from the book's 1985 movie adaptation. • It you are a fan of Out of Africa then this is a must visit. Nice cafe and gift shop. A past and present map of Nairobi, marking out the land once owned by Karen Blixen would be a good addition.

  • The guide Alan did a fantastic job in telling the history and story of Karen. The home has been kept in very good condition. Great place to come with young children ad the grounds has enough space to run around. Coffee shop is being opened soon, although we didn't know if it's by private company or the museum it self.
  • Very informative guides and great tour. Lasts about an hour and perfect for a beautiful day outside before heading to other nearby attractions. No pictures allowed inside the house unfortunately. I have been here multiple times and highly recommend watching “Out of Africa.” Neema (Tabitha) is a fabulous guide!
  • A local Kenyan took us here. A very historic and full of history of Karen Blixen and her family. The museum is well reserved and it was very interesting to see older furniture which would be illegal in some countries today. Not a lot of tourists there when we were there, and interestingly there are a few volunteers guide and Chinese translation, which is handy.
  • Recommend seeing the movie “Out of Africa” to fully take the most of this visit. Denmark bought the house to offer to Kenya as Karen’s Museum. With the ticket you’ll have a guide with good information to give.
  • Karen Blixen is a legend. A surprisingly beautiful visit to a museum. Karen's spirit is very much alive in her legacies. Her house is oriental and enticing, well preserved. The staff are efficient and nice. Don't fail to take the Nature trail!
