Admire the rare and majestic Lebanese cedar trees at The Cedars of God. This ancient forest once overflowed with this species of cedar, and its timber was favored by Egyptians, Romans, and Persians, to name a few. Sadly, exploitation has led to mass deforestation and this forest is now rigorously protected as a World Heritage Site. Walk among the imposing trees to admire their beauty, and keep your eyes peeled for some with trunks spanning more than 10 m (32 ft) across. Sitting at an altitude of 2,000 m (6,600 ft) above sea level, the peaceful forest provides a ruggedly beautiful landscape to explore. • There are actually much bigger cedar forests in the area, with hardly anyone visiting, and where you can do proper walks . This one is small but has the oldest trees and beautiful surroundings.
