Explore Tyre, an ancient Phoenician city home to many excavated ruins originating from various civilizations. Situated on a peninsula by the Mediterranean Sea, it features pristine beaches and blue waters. Wander by foot or catch a taxi to the archaeological sites, including the Roman hippodrome (ancient stadium)--the most popular site that's listed as a World Heritage Site. The ruins include a grand necropolis with several hundreds preserved sarcophagi. Stop to see the hot spring ruins for their Roman architecture. An old Phoenician port by the beach features numerous restaurants and ideal views of the coastline. The site also includes a lighthouse, a good spot for watching the sunset.
