See the rehabilitation center for Malawi’s injured, orphaned, and rescued wildlife at Lilongwe Wildlife Centre. Malawi’s only accredited wildlife sanctuary, the complex provides a home for around 200 wild animals annually. Encounter reptiles, primates, and carnivores, many of which were rescued as orphans and victims of the illegal pet and bushmeat trade. Take an organized tour and listen to a professional guide, who will explain how one of the world's poorest nations goes about its efforts to conserve its natural resources. The trails were well kept and we saw cranes and other interesting birds, including some Guinea hen type ones. We also saw some antelope! It’s nice that this area is set aside for preservation.

Some of it can be a bit reclusive but we've seen a fair amount in our visits. Despite being in the middle of the city, it's surprisingly peaceful and feels remarkable remote when you're walking...

Today we went for a walk on the trails at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre. What a beautiful spot of nature right in Lilongwe!!! There was three trails, of different lengths and not tough. The signage for each trail was very well done, making it easy to get around. The red trail heads down to the Lilongwe River at different points and seating/picnic areas. If you want to stop and absorb the nature, read a book of have a picnic. We saw a fair amount of birds, some monkeys and a few small antelope. Crocodiles have also been spotted in this river and there are a few signs telling you to be aware of them. Hyenas are seen to walk along the Lilongwe River at night but not sure if you would spot any here in the day time. This was a lovely way to spend an hour or more and could be an easy trail run at the beginning or end of the day. This place is children/family friendly. The Maravi cafe is to the left as you enter the Centre. It has a lovely menu with options for Vegetarians and vegans. There is also a small shop straight ahead as you enter with lots of local art and crafts for sale and a playground for kids. They are open every day of the week from 8am to 5pm. There is a small entrance fee to go towards conserving this space. I will come back and explore more

This is indeed a unique place. Orphans or injured animals from all over malawi are recovered here. Vets and volunteers work together to take care of those animals until they can return back to Wildlife if it’s possible, or kept safe inside of the wildlife center. It’s important to say that visitors can take long walks all around the park in paths signed with different colors but none of those pass inside the clinical zone, so visitors are not allowed to see the injured animals, they can just meet monkeys or other not dangerous animals, visible in the bush from the path.

The park hosts are really nice. I would love to see all of the animals but I think it’s great that they don’t allow guest for the benefit of the animal rehabilitation. While you cannot see all of the animals there are some nice nature trails where you can catch monkeys, antelope, crocodiles, birds, and butterflies. Seeing the animals is more luck than anything, I did not see any monkeys or crocodiles.

Really charming and cozy place! All surroundings just make you feel like in kind of little jungle, or harmony park where are many possible trails and little ways for a walk, where monkeys are everywhere around you playing with each other. From the part of different animals, they do not have plenty of them, only few in a time, depends when you will arrive and or you will be lucky. Why? Because it is sanctuary (hospital for animals) so most of them are coming and going. Staff members work really good! They are kind, helpful and always welcoming! There is bar/restaurant where prices are high (european) ones, but around the area you can find picnic areas where you can bring your own food and drinks. If you are in Lilongwe I really recommend to you to visit Lilongwe Willife Centre!

The animals are on reserve so there aren't available for viewing. There's a cozy restaurant /café there and a small arts shop. There are trails available for joggers or just long walks.
