Chief Abbot: พระนิโครธรรมธาดา / Ven.phranikhroddhammathada Alor Setar's most imposing and significant Siamese temple is non other than the well-known, Wat Nikrodharam. Situated in between Jalan Telok Wanjah and Jalan Stadium, which is close to the city's primary roundabout.

As with most of Malaysia’s northern states, Chinese form the majority of the Buddhist community in Alor Star, while local Thais and Indians make up the remainder of the population.

Hence, not suprisingly that the construction of the temple are blended between Chinese and Thai architectural styles. The temple was built in 1968 and has two gates with beautiful carvings which portray an extraordinary "flamboyant" shapes that make the temple a shining look.

This majestic temple is revered as being the primary Buddhist house of worship in Kedah’s state capital, hosting the city's most auspicious day on Wesak celebration.

Once every year on Wesak Day, which falls on a full-moon day in the month of May, the temple is packed with stream of devotees making their annual pilgrimage to pray and wish for good tidings, and give thanks and offerings to the gods. There are also temporary food stalls set up within the temple compound in the midst of the festive celebration.
