Signal Hill Observatory Platform, Kota Kinabalu

The main tower itself is currently under construction but there are benches by the sidewalk so you can still have a pretty amazing view. The hike up and down should not take more than 10min each way. Some planks are broken, so mind your steps. It's heavily covered by vegetation so it's cooling on a hot day

Steep and a bit creepy entrance. The wooden stairs were not well maintained start to fall apart. Some steps were missing and need to be extra careful. Reached the top and found out that it was temporary closed for some renovation. Sneaked in through a small gap and got to see nice view from the top though.

Closed now until mid 2023. The contractor behind the hoarding there told me they're just waiting for the green light from Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu to start renovation works mid July 2022. They'll take at least 1 year to finish their job. Signal Hill is indeed in need of renovation. The concrete platform has cracked. The stairs in the jungle trail leading up to it has missing planks. The lights are out. I'm sure this place will be great again once it re opens mid 2023. But if you're keen on the views from the roadside without going to the observation deck, then you'll still get to see the nice hilltop views of KL.

My last visit in December 2021, the place was closed. Back then, the view was nice and relaxing. The journey going up the road was fun and adventerous too with sharp corner and slope. Becareful.. There was a kopi tiam there back then. Now no more. Maybe they are doing renovation or moved to other place. I went there on the last day of my trip in year 2019.

Was closed but from the side accessible. The buildings obstruct the view but still a decent viewpoint and fun climb to get there if beware of the steps on the staircase
