Tanjung Aru Beach
On New Year's Day 2012, the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj Aman announced a project known as the 'Tanjung Aru Regeneration Project' which is meant to be a New Year's gift for the people of Sabah.Plan your Tanjung Aru Beach visit and explore what else you can see and do in Kota Kinabalu using our Kota Kinabalu trip itinerary planning site.
The project was later formalised as the Tanjung Aru Eco Development Project which was formally announced by the Prime Minister on September 16th, 2013 during the national Malaysia Day celebration.
Through the Tanjung Aru Eco Development project (TAED), we are restoring the splendour of Tanjung Aru Beach and enhancing Prince Philip Park to what they used to be in the past.
We are driven by the need to save our iconic waterfront from the threats of coastal erosion and pollution to ensure that our treasured public spaces are rehabilitated, rejuvenated and renewed.
Tanjung Aru Eco Development Sdn Bhd will:
- preserve the area as a perpetual heritage for the people of Sabah
- create a new coastal protection system to replace failing sea walls
- extend the length and breadth of Tanjung Aru Beach
- double the size of Prince Philip Park
- improve amenities to enhance recreation
- ensure the beach and the park remain public recreational spaces forever
The TAED revival project is not just about the beach and the park. The planned re-development of land behind Tanjung Aru beach and Prince Philip Park will create an eco-tourism icon and a premier tourism destination.
This eco-tourism gateway will be a new engine of growth, creating new job opportunities for all Sabahans and making lives better for future generations of Sabahans.
As a World Class Gateway to the Wonders of Sabah, Tanjung Aru will become a gift to be shared by the people of Sabah for generations to come.

We were staying in a hotel close by and went to the beach for a stroll. Very clean and not too crowded.

Absolutely nothing to write home about. View to the islands is ok. Sand not very nice, sea full of plastic. Plenty of space to park a car. Quite close to Shang ri la hotel.

Great place to walk and chill out with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. It's very popular for sundowners and you can see why! Keep an eye out for the parrots.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon to see the sunset with my dear friends. Although the island and then the clouds blocked the final sunset but it was still lovely. A lot of people here during that time. Children enjoying their time playing with bubbles and sand. A lot of food sold and coconut water is a must!

A very famous and crowd beach for seeing sunset which is very close to airport. Best to arrive here before 5pm. Some people blow bubbles and made the view very stunning. U can enjoy the meal here because some food stall were set up. Be careful of suddenly rain.
-
A nice stretch of public beach in Kota Kinabalu which wasn't too busy when we visited on a weekday. We found a beautiful sand sculpture here and met the artist. A nice place to watch the sun, sea and surf.

Breathtaking places to capture sunset scene for everyone. Neither u use pro gear or mobile, all pix sure turns out surely to b WoW effects. When u here, stay longer, enjoy the view and changes of the weather, u will see the changes of the skies, then is the right time to capture 😉🥂

Nice enough area to come to watch the sunset. This end of the beach is the popular busy section due to the closeness of the small market nearby. As with most beaches there's some trash to be seem but not too bad an amount.
