Create an itinerary including Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark
Witness an impressive geological formation at Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark. The attractive area of dunes features sand of seven distinct colors: red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow settle in separate layers, forming colorful stripes. The decomposition of volcanic rock cooling at different temperatures causes the separation, which, taken as a whole, appears otherworldly. Remember to bring your camera to catch this strange natural sight from behind the fences of the observation deck, and consider taking home a small tube of the sands from one of the many sellers by the entrance. • As a natural formation it is quite interesting but after walking around it there's not much else going on. The drive down and stopping to see the waterfall was better than the 7 coloured earth in my opinion. They had a nice cafe where the prices were not extortionate and the tortoises were also interesting. I would guess if you went with kids they would be more interested in the giant tortoises over everything else.
  • Visited Chamarel viewpoint and 7 Coloured Earth. When you entered the park, you need to drive couple minutes to viewpoints and 7 Coloured Earth. And the road was very well maintained. Parking is available.👌🏼 I recommend you to come here early with less tourists.🤓 Don’t forget to visit giant tortoise family near the 7 Coloured Earth.
  • Set amongst the rainforest this beautiful natural formation of earth shows the beauty that can even be found in clay and soil. Although the place itself is quite small, what you get is a unique experience and some dramatic and stunning scenery both there and on the drive to it. Don't forget to check out the giant tortoise too. Inexpensive to visit but tricky to get too without a guided tour.
  • The waterfall was spectacular. It was a little bit of a hike to get to the top viewing deck but so worth it. It was breathtaking. The 7 colored sand on the other hand was a bit of an anti-climax for me. I expected huge colored dunes but it is quiet a small area of coloured sands. The giant tortoises look a bit sad but it was nice seeing such huge creatures and reading of their origins. A tourist spot for sure but there's more hype than the site offers.
  • A beautiful exhibition of natural volcanic activity that has formed soil in seven colours. The grounds are well looked after and the site contains a sanctuary for tortoises. I would recommend visiting on a sunny day as it could be difficult to enjoy the beauty on a rainy or overcast day. The site contains toilets, a small gift shop which sells unique goods as well at Chamarels own coffee grown on site. There is also a small cafe which sells hot and cold drinks and food.
