Create an itinerary including Rhumerie de Chamarel
Take a tour of Rhumerie de Chamarel to learn about the history of rum production in the country. Opening in 2008, the distillery harvests its own sugar cane by hand instead of burning the crops; the result is an improved flavor and smaller ecological footprint. Surrounded by attractive plant life, where sugar cane, pineapples, and other tropical fruits grow in abundance, the distillery and agricultural plantation form an eco-friendly estate and offer an introduction to the country's agricultural heritage. Let the experienced guides take you through the process of rum-making, and be sure to enjoy a tipple at the end and pick up a bottle to take home with you. • Both the restaurant and the tour/tasting are excellent and I highly recommend visiting. The tour was fairly short but it was informative and the guide seemed to know the entire process in great depth. The tasting was good and included the entire basic range of rums they produce. The premium range was also available to taste at the end of the tour for an extra fee. The restaurant is stunning both for the exquisite building and the tasty food. We had the braised pork and the chicken and prawn curry. We both agreed it was some of the best food we've had so far in Mauritius. Booking is absolutely essential for the restaurant.
  • What an amazing experience. We did the tour which at the time was Rs400 for a guided tour and rum tasting. We had lovely lady who explained the production of rum with a nice joke here and there. The rum tasting was also very nice. A beautiful place to visit in Mauritius. Thank you for your lovely service.
  • If you enjoy rum this is worth going to. The setting is beautiful, views and gardens, and the tour guide was knowledgeable. The best bit was tasting the rum! We tasted 8 different ones (bonus for me was my husband was driving so I tasted his as well!) We didn't go to the restaurant but menu looked good .
  • Wow! Amazing place! The palm and cane trees around, the beautifully designed pool and the operating machines…. Most importantly, this 450rs gets you into the tour (the tour itself wasn’t the best explanation of the process in my opinion, quite interrupted by the loud noisy of machinery) and the portions they offer you at the end of the tour would def get you tipsy!!! Good value!
  • We had a wonderful culinary experience at this restaurant. I think it was the best food we had during our 2 week trip to Mauritius. The vanilla foie gras and the lamb shank were absolutely delicious and worth the wait. The staff is super busy, but always smiling and eager to help. I also recommend the Ti Punch, which is the house's specialty (and usually included in the menu). Also the place looks great and has a wonderful view of the mountain.
